Sugars, Syrups, Molasses and Storage
We produce sugars and syrups in Europe, the Americas and Vietnam. Tate & Lyle refines predominantly cane sugar but also processes some sugar beet in joint ventures in Eastern Europe. Sugars and syrups are used to give sweetness, texture, colour and flavour to a range of consumer products. Our main customers for these products are food and beverage producers, but other customers include pharmaceutical, detergent and building companies. Tate & Lyle Sugars, Europe uses over two-thirds of the cane sugar imported into Europe from African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Tate & Lyle Sugars, Americas refines cane sugar in Mexico. Our sugar businesses have leading consumer brands and are recognised household names in their respective markets. Our sugar brands include Tate & Lyle (UK) and Sidul and Sores (Portugal). Lyle's Golden Syrup is a very well-known brand in the UK and as well as standalone products (including coffee syrups and ice-cream toppings) has licensing partners who produce Lyle's Golden Syrup-based cakes, ice-cream and biscuits. The sugar businesses are supported by our international sugar trading operation.
These ingredients are produced by our Sugars divisions in Europe and the Americas.
Molasses, a by-product of sugar refining, is a valuable food ingredient and a nutrient in animal feed. It is also used as a substrate for fermentation and as an industrial ingredient with numerous applications including in dyes and tyre manufacture. An element of our international molasses business is our storage business which operates world-class dedicated third-party bulk liquid storage terminal for food grade, feed grade and industrial products.
These businesses are part of our Sugars divisions in Europe.
